Christine Allen

Christine Allen is an abstract artist who moved to Cornwall in 1985. Since then she has involved herself in a variety of creative fields, utilizing the skills gained from teacher training at Brighton College in the 70's, running art workshops and courses, working with both children and adults.

She formed her own company in 1989, which she ran for 10 years as a freelance Decorative Painter and Commercial Interior designer creating, from personalised hand painted designs on children’s furniture, to trompe l’oeil  murals, and skilled paint effects in both the domestic and commercial market.

Christine also worked with victims of strokes and other disabilities, and whilst starting an Art Therapy course in 2000 suddenly her own creativity became unlocked and a need to paint and express visually, thoughts, feelings and imaginings that lay filed away in her head was paramount. She became a full time artist and a long-standing co-owner of a successful Gallery in St Ives in 2001-2009.

Her mezzanine studio is in an amazing earth built building in an Eco Park on the wild North Cornish coast at Porthtowan.

She has commissioned work on permanent exhibition in The Scarlet Hotel, Mawgan Porth and The Hotel Penzance.

She has been exhibiting regularly in both mixed and solo shows since 1995 and as founder of Out of  Place Art she curates exhibitions to showcase artists work for various venues.

Christine has work in collections throughout the UK, Holland, Australia, Germany and USA.

'An image begins with something I have seen, a particular light, a glimpse, a word, something out of context, a piece of rusty metal, anything that creates a stir in my imagination.

My paintings are not necessarily the result of a specific concept. The finished pieces evolve out of a process of continual change, hand and eye coincidences, and an innate knowledge of colour and composition. I like to explore the boundary lines between representation and abstraction,

colour, geometric form, and paint itself.'

In 2011 Hart Publications chose an image of one of Christine’s paintings, ‘Ordered Energy Blue series 1’ to be the cover for a new book, ‘The Politics of International Law’ which is now circulated world wide.
